Throughout his career, animals have been a dominant theme in Tom's work. Beginning in 1995, a few of the animal forms began a metamorphosis into human forms, and by 2000 an entire line of small androgynous-looking little beings had emerged. Of course we made up stories about them.
They made me smile when I was painting them and I still smile when I look at them. In the end, we decided to call the series, "Journeys" because we thought they looked like they were traveling through life in a way which we would like to travel through life; thoughtfully, joyfully, and triumphantly as listeners and participants.
They are all one-of-a-kind with the single figures being numbered as well as signed. There were 57 single figures made and various others were enthroned upon couches, chairs and even fish. I hope that you enjoy your glimpse into their world.
